Photography has always been an avenue of creative and emotional expression for me; the moment I pick up a camera I have a hard time putting it down. I discovered photography as a sophomore in high school and immediately fell in love with it. I went on to receive a fine arts degree in photography from Johnson State College in Vermont. While at JSC I devoted my time to making fine art photographs, often spending hours with models and props composing intricate scenes in both color and black and white.
After graduating I had the opportunity to travel extensively. My travels led me far and wide, from Egypt to New Zealand, Iceland, Great Britain, and the Hawaiian Islands. All the time I never stopped taking pictures; many of the photographs from my travels are featured on my website.
Several years ago some friends asked me to photograph their non-traditional wedding. It’s more like a party, they said, a boundless celebration. Once I experienced the adrenaline and emotional intensity of photographing their wedding, I was hooked. Being a special part of their union was such a unique experience- nothing like the carefully choreographed compositions of my fine art days! The spontaneity of each moment and the personality of each individual guest were both a challenge and a delight to photograph. And of course, there’s nothing like the excitement of presenting a couple with their finished album and watching their faces as they revisit their wedding day.
Weddings are great opportunities for spontaneity and serendipity; each family and wedding day is unique, and I relish the excitement of photographing moment to moment. When I photograph a wedding my intention is to become a part of the gathering, so that the images I capture represent peoples’ true selves and their real time experience of the celebration. I love watching each couple’s wedding unfold, from my initial meeting with the bride and groom-to-be, to the anticipation of getting ready, to the champagne toast, to meeting the family members and friends. By the time I deliver the album we have become old friends!
I currently live in the Green Mountains of Vermont and am available for weddings in the Northeast. Please contact me for additional pricing or other information. I am also available to photograph portraits, families, and pregnancies (which are really worth documenting!), as well as commercial and product photography.
